Bus - Phnom Penh to HCM City
In recent months more and more companies have began operating bus services between Cambodia's capital city, Phnom Penh and Vietnam's largest city, Ho Chi Minh City. The most popular services are operated by Mekong Express, Capital Tours and Mai Linh.
With tickets costing around 11 -13USD per person, this a cheap and easy way to travel the 250km to and from Vietnam/Cambodia.
When you get on the bus, you will get a small water, wet towel and some will also give you a small pastry all included in the ticket price. The service takes around 6 - 7 hours, however may vary due to the border crossing.
Staff on board the bus generally speak English and it's recommended that you pre-book tickets a day or two in advance as they do fill up quickly. Departure from either city vary from company to company, but most leave at 6.30am, some have a later departure. Most only stop once, at the border for drinks, food and toilet.
Most will pick up from your hotel and drop of at a central drop of point in each city. For HCMC, this is generally Pham Ngu Lao (Backpacker Area), however some of the newer companies drop of in District 5 (10/15 minute drive to the backpacker area.)
In Phnom Penh the departure/drop off point is either the Central Market area or along the River Front.
Book at the company office, any travel agent or speak to your hotel reception.
Final Word
Cheap, easy and comfortable service. Highly recommended.
Note:
- If you are entering Vietnam on this bus service, you must have a visa prior to arrival.
- If you are entering Cambodia on this service, you can get visa's at the border for $25USD (US Cash Only). You will need 2 passport photo's.
