Arriving into Hue, Vietnam

The old Imperial City of Hue was where Vietnam was once ruled from. The Nguyen Dynasty ruled between 1801 until 1945 when Ho Chi Minh declared Independence for Vietnam.

The city today is a marvel of ancient building, temples and the ever popular Citadel. Visitors can also enjoy a peaceful cruise along the Perfume River or for the more adventurous souls, explore the city and countryside on a motor bike!

Getting to Hue is really easy, you have three options! Here they are:

Air


Vietnam Airlines flies to Hue from several cities and towns around Vietnam. Jetstar Pacific fly to Hue from Hanoi and HCMC only. From HCMC, the flights takes just under two hours, while from Hanoi it should take an hour.

Phu Bai Airport (Hue Airport) is approx 14km from town and taxi's should cost around 10USD per car.

Train

Vietnam's Reunifcation Express Train Service stops in Hue serval times a day. You can catch the train from Hanoi or from many towns in the south. The train station is located at 2 Pham Chu Trinh (at the end of Le Loi Street) and you can easily purchase tickets here for onward travel.

Taxi's to town should cost only a few dollars (metered taxi). Motor bike taxi's (Xe Om) and cyclo's hang out at the station which offer a cheaper means of transport.

Road

All lot of travelers arrive to Hue on the bus from Hanoi or Hoi An. There are many companies now operating these routes and tickets cost less then 10USD. Most bus services will drop you of at their "Company" hotel for the most part are often clean, handy and cheap.

The journey from Hoi An takes around 3 hours and from Hanoi expect at least 12 hours in your seat!
